An individual is considered developmentally disabled when he or she has a severe, chronic disability caused by a mental or physical impairment or a combination of these impairments. This includes individuals with such impairments as mental retardation, autism, and other developmental disorders. The programs at Life Help for this population focus on the strengths of each individual and the importance of community inclusion/integration. Opportunities are provided to enhance skills related to social and adaptive functioning. This enables the individual to remain in the community as opposed to a lifetime of institutionalization. Life Help offers both residential and community programs.
